Synopsis:
During his senior year in high school, He was (and still am)
an extra-extrovert with an exclamation point. But he was also great hider (to
everyone) that something strange had taken hold of my body. When school began
that year, he weighed 145 pounds. On the day of his college physical exam-April
14, 1972, his family doctor diagnosed him with juvenile diabetes and told him he weighed 104 pounds.
He left the examination room and returned with a brochure,
that he told me to read. He got stuck on one sentence and kept reading it over
and over. He calculated in my head, that based upon the average life span of an
American male (in 1972), He would very likely be dead at 48. He began to cry.
